The VCE French Program

Starting 26th Jan 2026

The VCE French Program

After working with students across Melbourne, I noticed a clear pattern: French felt easy and fun... until VCE hits. Suddenly, you're expected to juggle speaking, writing, reading, and listening. And it’s easy to feel lost under the weight of content. You want to revise, but where do you even start ?

That's what the VCE French Program is all about. It's all your revisions organized and your flashcards done for you. So that you can start focusing on what you want to say instead of how.

What is it?

A mobile/digital program designed like Duolingo, but fully aligned with the VCE French Study Design. It's designed for Year 10–12 students and covers vocabulary, grammar, idiomatic expressions and useful sentences.

Why this program?

  • Specifically Tailored to French VCE students

  • Engaging (varied quizzes and a fun app)

  • Flexible (you do it on your schedule)

  • Backed by Science (uses proven methods like active recall and spaced repetition)

  • Affordable (memberships start at 22$/month)

Who is it for?

For Year 10–12 students who want French to feel more natural and automatic. This program is for you if:

  • You're too busy to create your own flashcards or organize your revisions and/or you need flexible learning options.

  • During exams, you know what you want to say, but often lack the vocab or structure to say it,

  • You have a solid base but want to sound more fluent and sophisticated,

You don’t need more notes, you need consistent, active practice that helps you retain and retrieve what you already know.

What's in the quizzes?

Each fortnight focuses on one key topic from the curriculum that is likely to appear in the exam (have a look at the calendar below for details). The quizzes cover vocabulary, grammar, idiomatic expressions and useful sentencesEach quiz builds on the last and gradually increases in difficulty. It's 100% focused on the VCE French Study Design and everything you learn can be directly re-used in class.

Why daily quizzes work?

There are many benefits to doing short, daily quizzes:

  1. It creates a habit and keeps you consistent even when you lack motivation.

  2. Quizzes are an active way of learning. It forces your brain to constantly retrieve information and that's the best pathway to long-term memorization.

  3. Your brain loves repetition and this ultimately helps with automation (the ability to use the language without consciously thinking about every word or rule).

How does it help with reading, speaking, listening and writing?

Just like a house, language is built in layers and you need to lay one brick at a time. Foundations matter... A lot! You cannot improve your reading, listening, speaking and writing without a strong grasp of vocabulary and grammar. There’s no point doing hundreds of past exams if you haven’t first mastered the language itself. Once you master the language, you will naturally improve the 4 skills. This is what I find myself repeating to most of my students and this is how this project was born.

Why the VCE French Program?

There’s nothing I enjoy more than sharing my love of languages with my students. And for them to truly enjoy this journey too, they need to see progress. That’s why I’ve always worked hard to help each student reach their full potential: keeping a dedicated notebook for every learner, sharing authentic resources, creating tailored plans, quizzes, mini-tests… You name it! Anything to support them on the rewarding journey of learning a language.

But one issue kept interrupting our progress: from week to week, students forgot what we had done. Instead of moving forward, we spent precious time repeating the same content. It drove me crazy. Not because they shouldn't be forgetting (I know there's lots going on in VCE), but because they already understood the concepts. They just needed to refresh their memory. Now, I knew I couldn’t give every student a quick daily check-in, so I created the next best thing.

This program is what I wish they had all had: short, daily refreshers to break the forgetting cycle. Quick and enjoyable enough that students actually do them, yet consistent and challenging enough to keep French active in their minds every single day. It's short, flexible and fun. There's literally no excuses I can think of not to do it!
